I'll never forget the summer I met Christians on Campus. I had just graduated from the Guilliard School and came to Austin to take an intensive German course at UT. Even though the class consumed eight hours of my day, I had a real desire to get to know the Lord Jesus and the Bible in a deeper way. My older sister introduced me to Christians on Campus, and immediately I had the sense within that these Christians not only loved the Lord, but knew and lived the truth.
I began attending the Bible study and the college meetings. In the Bible study we were going through I and II Corinthians. It was so rich! I saw that the ministry of the new covenant is superior to the law of the old covenant. I saw that the focus of the ministry of the new covenant is thus both the Spirit as the life supply, and righteousness, the living out and genuine expression of Christ, who as the Spirit is our life (2 Cor. 3:17). Even Paul's vindication of his apostolic authority impressed me with the battle he had to fight in defending the pure teaching of the Word of Christ, with so many other teaching filtering in (like Gnosticism, Judaism, and asceticism). The truth of the Bible became so precious to me. I soon realized that the Word of God is no longer totally mysterious, and that I could grasp the heart and message God wants to convey. I felt like someone had given me the key to a great treasure vault. Also, the college meetings were so full of life and enjoyment. A lot of singing, praising and calling on the Lord. They were loud but for the first time I learned how to exercise and release my spirit!
